Mr. Ernest Okrah (alias Azigi), a resident of UK and with [[Frantisek Korbel]] a co-author of Oyoko.org website dedicated as a tool to project the image of Oyoko and also to communicate with sons and daughters of Oyoko home and abroad, on Wednesday 8th April donated 6 flat screen monitors and its associated Pentium 4 CPU to various institutions at [[Oyoko]].

The beneficiary institutions were:
*Oyoko Police Station
*Oyoko Methodist Primary School
*[[Photo gallery 2|Oyoko Methodist J.S.S]]
*Oyoko Presby Primary
*Oyoko Roman J.S.S
*Oyoko Roman Primary School.

The gesture was to assist the schools and the Police authorities have chance of using computers in order to have quick access to information and to be at pace with the rest of the world.

The village already has a place that can be utilized as a youth center however they are in actual need of equipment.
As part of this we are hoping to write a funding proposal that can be used to find ongoing sources of funding for the community youth center.

We have already gathered lots of information that can be delivered to the villagers of [[Oyoko]]. Our task now is to work out HOW to get that information to them. The community has identified a few resources they will need to effectively deliver education seminars to groups of youths. On the wish list are TV, DVD, Projector, White board, Posters etc.

==About [[Oyoko]]==
===Location===
Oyoko is a small community, which lies 4 miles north of [[Koforidua]], the Eastern Regional capital along the main road from Koforidua to Kumasi.
===People===
According the last population census held in 2000, the population was 6400 people with children between 6 -18 years constituting about 30% with high fertility rate among women.
Most of the people are peasant farmers with few working in the public sector.

People living in [[Oyoko]] - Koforidua are from mixed cultures.
About 70% of the population are Asantes with the rest being Ewes, Northerners and other minority tribes.

===Arts and crafts===
====Events at Oyoko====

On the traditional calendar there are nine (9) Akwasidae (sacred days) which is calculated on forty days interval and fall on Sunday and is celebrated by all the Ashantis. The last Akwasidae (on the Traditional Calendar) of the year is celebrated as Special Akwasidae by the chiefs and people of Oyoko - Adonten Division of the New Juaben Traditional Area. It is a week long event which is used as a platform to honour sons and daughters of Oyoko who have distinguished themselves creditably both at home and abroad. The event also take stock of the town's achievements and setbacks of previous year and outdoor new developmental projects for the coming year.

My name is Ernest Okrah, born in Ghana 36 years ago. I used to live in Oyoko, but now I live in London. I am married and have two beautiful boys. When I was in Oyoko, I saw a lot of youth going wayward with no sense of direction and help. I thought what can I do as an individual is to channel my effort through co-ordinating something like the Youth Advisory Centre to bring new experience and hope to the youth in the community. The plight of the unfortunate ones which I have no control or resources to change and make life a little bit better, keeps me awake at night. If the Youth Advisory Centre becomes a reality, it will provide youth development and so we will rescue the future of Oyoko.

===Hope for the Youth===
Before joining NABUUR, there were no Computer facility for the school children in Oyoko to use. Now we can enjoy a furnished computer lab with 26 computers. Neighbours helped to secure 30 computers, transport them and had about $900 to support the local community to establish the lab. The next step is the Youth Advisory Centre. The mission of Youth Center is to assist & advise the young generation of Oyoko in its personal & professional development. The basic tasks: providing info & training on the issues such as health, employment & everything connected. It is also going to serve as a place of extra-curricular activities The smile on their faces and someone saying thank you alone is a motivation that keeps me going!

===A day in the life===
My day starts at 6.30am when i leave home to work and spend 3 hours commuting. I start work at 9 am and close at 5pm. I am normally at home by 8pm as i have to do a part - time work before going home.I am not able to work as I would have love to as Local Rep to be successful in this drive for change in my community as a result of other commitment. As I don’t have internet home because my computer is broken down I end up squeezing few minutes from my tight schedule at work to update neighbors. Internet has become part of my life, I use it at work as and when required. The cost to get connected from home is not the problem but to buy new computer or lap top has become a headache for me as am financially tight.

===A message for the Neighbours===
My dream is to see the youth in Oyoko leading a healthy and safe life. I live by the motto that one has to do that of which one is convinced is right, and stand by one’s decision. The Neighbours can expect from me total commitment to the cause. I want to work with people who is seriously minded and want to make this dream come true. NABUUR is about commitment, and vision for one’s community. Let’s make this happen

I learned about NABUUR on a website about 3 years ago. Nabuur but it means a lot to me as I see them as a channel that I can use to help other disadvantage youth dream come true. The heads of the schools and the Station Sergeant who received the computers on behalf of the institutions expressed their gratitude to Mr Azigi for his kind gesture. They assured Mr Azigi that the computers will be put to good use and call on others to emulate the kind gesture.

The headmistress of Roman Catholic J.S.S used the opportunity to call for an assistance to deal with a water log problem prevalent on the school compound which often makes school activities difficult.

The headmistress of Roman Catholic Primary School also call for an assistance to progress a new building facility the school they have started to enhance the quality of education being delivered.

The head of Presbyterian School on the other hand made a call for more donations of computers so that the school have their own ICT facility to make the school more competitive with others in big towns.

To Methodist Schools, their main problem is the school park which is now difficult to play on or use for any school playing activities because the deplorable state of the park which has become more like a desert.

To Mr Azigi, technology is the future therefore children in Oyoko need to be empowered to be competitive. Computer donation can make a big difference for underprivileged in Oyoko, stand up and be counted.

Oyoko Development Association -ODA organised an Inter Basic Schools Quiz Competition for the schools in town on the 4th March 2017 as part of the 60th Independence Anniversary celebration. The participation school were: Oyoko Methodist JHS, Presby JHS, Roman JHS and SDA Preparatory.

Presby School who came on top and all the participating schools were given prizes at 6th March Parade held at Oyoko Methodist School Park.
